Сколько стоит лего сити андерковер
Keep in mind that this is really the first TT Lego game I’ve played. For someone more familiar with their formula they might feel very different about the game since I’m not comparing it to the other Lego games.
I’ve seen the game described as Lego GTA and I’d say that’s fairly accurate. Basically, you have an open world that’s Lego City (a mishmash of different American and European cities) and then you do some missions to advance the story. Many missions have parts that take place in the open world and then you go into a dungeon-type assignment that’s very linear and focused on puzzle solving and some action. Overall I’d say the mission design is pretty good and the puzzles keep being interesting to the end. It’s good that it doesn’t go on longer than it does though because towards the end I could feel how it started to overstay its welcome a bit.
During the story, you pick up new "disguises" that are basically abilities that you can switch between to solve puzzles. Many collectibles are locked behind puzzles in a way so that you can’t reach them on your first time playing though and you need to come back later and replay if you want those. I liked this element and I usually don’t fancy secret hunting in games, but the way this is done makes me think of metroidvanias and it worked for me. It’s fun to backtrack to old areas if you can remember how you saw the limits of your capabilities the first time and now you just return to conquer everything with your abilities.
The writing is quite funny but on the campy side. If I would compare the humour it’s very much a corny 80’s parody film. Picture Mel Brooks or Leslie Nielsen movies, or maybe Mike Myers, but make them child-friendly and you have the style of comedy run through the story. The story itself is a bit of a mess but that doesn’t really matter. You can feel that they had ideas for the different set pieces and then made the story to accommodate those locations and situations. I didn’t really mind that since the game is many times brimming with creativity and sillyness it doesn’t matter that it’s total nonsense. I would even argue that it’s a strength of the game since it does it with utter confidence. Some of the set pieces are really great and surprisingly epic. Especially towards the end.
When it comes to vehicles there is a baffling amount to play around with all kinds of cars, service vehicles, motorcycles, bikes, lawnmowers, helicopters, and boats (planes exist and can be found but you can’t fly them sadly). The designs of the cars are something else. There’s an incredible amount of variety and they are all modeled fantastically if you stop and take a look at them you can really appreciate the time and effort that’s been put into the designs.
I’ve always had a bit of a skeptical feeling towards the way the world is portrayed in TT’s Lego games. I don’t really understand the choice of mixing real life with Lego. Like why are there real trees, bushes, rocks, roads, and buildings with Lego stuff mixed in? I don’t really understand that choice. I think it would be a better direction to have the entire world made out of Lego, but I guess that’s just the design philosophy that TT uses for their games and you have to buy into it. After a while, it didn’t really bother me unless I stopped to think about it. It’s still a pretty good-looking game. It’s not winning any awards or anything, but it’s good enough, and everything that’s made of Lego is pretty much spot on.
The thing that bothered me the most is that it insists on making the cardinal sin of taking control away from the player. When doing activities you are constantly interrupted by animations or camera movements that force the character to stand still. This is just to show you what a button does or that some enemies came through a door. I don’t need or want that. If I press a button I can look around to see what happened. Don’t interrupt me all the time. This wasn’t that big of an issue when I played through the story the first time, but when I replayed it to collect the secrets it really got in the way. When collecting a thing there are just animations on the screen that, while I can still move around, I can’t interact with anything or open the map. This might sound like small potatoes, and in the big picture, it is, but a game that encourages replaying levels and collecting stuff (we are talking about perhaps 20 hours of secret hunting to 100% the game) should go out of its way not to make the player watch the same cutscenes and animations all the time. If I had one change I would make to the game I’d just make everything skippable and only take away player control on very special occasions.
Overall though a very enjoyable and relaxing game that doesn’t test much except your patience. The writing is childish and fun. I’m looking forward to trying out more of the TT Lego games.
