Пока что он существует лишь пока в виде прототипа, собирая средства на краудфандинговой платформе Kickstarter. У разработчиков и так все было неплохо, но они решили привлечь дополнительные средства для возможности масштабировать производство. И пока что все получается — из 10 000 евро, заявленных в качестве необходимой для старта производства суммы собрано уже 46 000 евро, и до конца сборов остался почти месяц. Так что все отлично — телефон с высокой степенью вероятности появится в продаже.
Кстати, поставляется две версии устройства — с уже упомянутым выше Ubuntu Touch и другой операционной системой, которая базируется на Android. Называется она Volla OS. Достоинством устройства является возможность установки одновременно нескольких операционных систем. А на старте можно выбирать, какую ОС загрузить в данный момент.
Компания Volla не новичок в разработке мобильных устройств. Это уже ее третий смартфон, прежде выходили Volla Phone и Volla Phone X. Оба базировались на процессоре MediaTek Helio P23 и у обоих было по 4 ГБ ОЗУ. Ну а теперь разработчики поставили обновленный чип и вдвое увеличили объем оперативной памяти.
Что там с возможностями?
Сразу стоит сказать, что у телефона съемная батарея, которую пользователь может заменить без всякого труда. Было бы неплохо, если бы и другие производители вернулись к старой доброй традиции установки съемных аккумуляторов. Все просто — снимается крышка и меняется батарея, как было раньше.
Выше уже упоминалось, что кроме Линукса, телефон поставляется с еще одной ОС, собственной Volla OS. Она базируется на коде Android Open Source Project, но разработчики включили кастомный лончер, собственный интерфейс и набор приложений, заточенных под защиту персональных данных.
Важный момент — Google Play Store не входит в набор приложений, это специально сделано для тех пользователей, кто ценит собственную приватность и не хочет зависеть от крупных корпораций и их продуктов. Соответственно, «выпилены» и другие приложения от Google, как, впрочем, и в некоторых других смартфонах. С одной стороны, это хорошо, с другой — есть проблема удобства использования. Ведь многие из нас привыкли к сервисам от Google — если не картам, то Google Pay или другим. А здесь их нет, и альтернативы тоже не всегда попадаются.
Но зато у Volla OS есть сосбтвенный файрволл с возможностью дополнительных настроек. Есть функция App Locker для скрытия приложений или их отключения без удаления. А еще есть VPN от Hide.me. Исходный код проекта доступен, так что любой желающий может проверить, что там внутри.
Пользователю предоставляется удобный менеджер запуска приложений, который позволяет создавать кастомные списки или вызывать приложение при помощи текстового поиска.

В целом, все неплохо. Суперпроизводительным девайс назвать нельзя, но с большинством задач он справится, и неплохо.

Volla Phone
Volla Phone, A startup focused on simplicity and privacy for the average user. It’s a solid mid-range device with eight-core, produced by Gigaset. This device falls nicely in the hands, and it has an outstanding screen/body ratio. On the other hand, it has slight incompatibility with the UT navigation bar. But, overall, it is working very smoothly and relatively responsive.
The device is still in development and has partial functionality. When the port will get full functionality and will be added to the installer it will become supported.

How to install Ubuntu Touch OS
You can install Ubuntu Touch on this device using the UBports Installer on your computer.
Unless device specific instructions are provided by the porter, please follow these general steps:
- Unlock the bootloader, please search the internet for instructions
- Install the required Android/stock rom version ¹
- Select the appropriate installer package for your computer
- Plug in your device and follow the on-screen instructions
- The installer will take it from there
¹ Devices generally require a specific version of Android/stock rom to be installed. This depends on the halium version the port is build on. For example, if the port is based on halium 9, make sure you have Android version 9 installed before running the installer .

The Volla OS is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and does not include Google Apps or Google Play service to protect your privacy.
Android apps that do not rely on these services can still be installed and used through an anonymous app store. This is the majority of Android apps.
We don’t collect data, we don’t keep statistics, and we don’t ask for a Volla user account in order for you to use the Volla Phone.
To protect your privacy, the Volla Phone also comes to you with an app for the VPN service Hide.me, which does not log any activity, ensuring your anonymity.
Ubuntu Touch Option
As an alternative pre-installed operating system, you can select the Ubuntu Touch mobile Linux operating system for the Volla Phone.
Enjoy control over your smartphone as you know it from Linux, including a terminal app. At any time, just gesture to the sidebar to bring up an app optimized for mobile use.
Ubuntu Touch is also independent of Google and has its own app store. Android apps cannot be installed and run without additional software.
