3200 CL14 vs 3600 CL16
3200C14 is technically a better binning, but you end up at the mercy of the PCB these ICs are on
3600C16 is about equal in theoretical latency, but you can be sure the PCB can take at least 3600MT/s for this random B-Dies
* i had 3200C14 flareX which could do 3800 with ease, and st*pid ones which didn't know what 3400C14 means
both where sadly on the same PCB layout , soo ultimately it was lost IC lottery
If you end up with a 3200C14 A1 PCB , you have still a 50-50 chance to either hit good ICs or bad ICs
A1 would guarantee far tighter timings, but as exchange of maximum rated speed (around the 4K cap the difference is noticable)
A0 PCB might deliver without issues this 3800-4000 but not under CL16-17, while A1 could do 14-15ish if you didn't lose IC lottery
If we speak solely about memory binning, buying 4400C19 kits are a better bin than both options down
While 4000C19 flat ones which are still b-dies, are a lower bin than 3200C14, although you can be sure the PCB is either A1 or A2
A2 pcb — the short trace layout one, technically a great PCB which loves voltage and loves very low timings at high speeds
It's what A0 delivers (high speed support with decent timings under high voltage) while A2's range would be 5000 to consider "high"
on A0 , around the 4K mark you are already near the end before timings just get stupidly high
Best bet and likely if not sold out, still the cheapest are 4400C19/18 kits or 3600C15 ones
At least over 3600 you can be kinda sure you won't get bad ICs, while remaining only on PCB layout
On 3200C14, you might get good ICs, but they'd be wasted if you get a A0 PCB
with nearly 0 chance of hitting A2 layout
Issue on A2 short trace layout is also compatibility with budget boards
It's very prone to bad signal integrity and overall is memory sensitive to EMI
What is better A1 or A2 is not fully clear — A1 up till 3600 can rock very low timings with ease, for A2 3600 would for example be nothing — CL12 territory and 3800C14 one
Hard to explain, it's a big topic
But TL;DR:
If you buy for binned kits, get 4400C19 or 3600C15 if possible
else pray on 3200C14s , but more sense makes 3600C16 flat
* still 4400 ones might be cheaper because of less popularity, although people started buying them out too :thumb:

You can only compare cas to ram with the same speed. for 3200 14 is better than 16, for 3600 16 is better than 18, you notice how the numbers rise together. my old ddr3 1600 had a cas of 9.

Again the difference is negligible. 1 2% at most. so the bigger question is, would you rather spend more on ram, or take that extra cash and invest in the higher tier gpu or cpu? or just overall aesthetics. no body is seeing a difference in 100 vs 105 frames in a game. #1 hi all, i need to decide today which 32gb (2x 16gb) ram kits i should choose. the ram stick will be set to their xmp profile and won't be overclocked the pc will be used for 4k gaming and heavy file encodings (video) the ram sticks will be trident z royal the links of the sticks are here. [SOLVED] GSkill 3200Mhz CL14 vs 3600MHz CL16
[quotemsg=21724854,0,2884335]What would be better? Price is almost the same. I plan on pairing it with 9700k and Im just wondering if theres any difference or not. Even if the difference is small what gives better performance in games? Especially cpu intensive games. Thanks[/quotemsg]
If the price is the same, go for the 3600C16 it’s faster than 3200C14. Keep in mind on that Intel platform you won’t see any benefit from regular 3200C16/3000C15 vs 3600/C16 or 3200C14 in real world performance. In other words, the FPS boost will only be 3-5 FPS. If you still want to spend a respectable amount of money though, go for 3600C16 but at this price point, maybe you should go for 32GB RAM instead of that. If you were on a Ryzen platform, then that’s a whole different story.

3200 cl14 vs 3600 cl16 question — kit choice for 3900x
So I've recently decided to make a switch and instead of an Intel build I'm going for 3900x. following that I went down the rabbit hole of researching which RAM to get and after reading the discussions and checking what's available to me, I more or less narrowed it down to 2 kits, both g.skill:
3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 (F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC)
3200MHz CL14-14-14-34 (F4-3200C14D-32GTZKW)
the 2nd kit (3200 cl14) is almost $115 more, is it worth it? I'm new to overclocking so I'm not sure how much tweaking I'll be doing (and how well)
I'm open to suggestions if maybe I'm still missing a better option. I want 32GB because this isn't going to be a purely gaming PC, I need it to also handle digital illustration and potentially animation, with too many chrome tabs open (and usually other programs as well)
(edit thank you all for the replies, I'm gonna go with the 3600cl16)
