Валюты в игре будет целых 2 вида. Миры игры, которые здесь называются Царствами – не маленькие кубические уровни, проходя их придётся преодолеть несколько чекпойнтов, причём между чекпойнтами будет работать функция быстрого перемещения.
Шляпа – наше оружие и помощник. Управлять ею придётся, взмахивая контроллерами Joy-Con. При этом игра будет иметь поддержку Pro контроллера и его гироскопов. Ещё шляпа будет помогать собирать предметы и захватывать врагов! Каждый противник будет по-своему уникален (почти как в Кирби) и подарит возможность делать нечто особенное. Их помощью можно будет добираться в те места, которые изначально недоступны для Марио, поэтому способности очень важны. Вообще, каждое Царство в Super Mario Odyssey будет опираться на ту или иную игровую механику.
